In light of recent developments, I’ve started a new book yesterday and it has me glued. I’m only reading it while waiting for the bus, and on the bus itself. It’s so intriguing…which leads me to this great quote from the book:
“Che died for us, my father would say. He went into the hills and fought as a guerrilla.
I was small enough then that I didn’t understand the difference between guerrilla and a gorilla. I imagined a man jumping about the jungle, in imitation of an ape, ambushing the purveyors of evil.”
- Hector Tobar “Translation Nation: Defining A New American Identity In The Spanish-Speaking United States”
I quoted that because I felt it connecting with me and my curiosities when I was a kid. There was this awesome NES game called “Guerrilla Wars” and I used to play that game non stop. I never once saw a gorilla or monkey in the game, and I thought as a kid that the end boss must have been some sort of primate like in “Donkey Kong”.
My dad was never a big fan of Che Guevara.
My dad was a big fan of Diego Maradona, a famous Soccer Player. My dad was a pro-soccer player, and nearly made it to the national selection. Had he not married my mom or had me, He would have played in the world cup, instead he hooked me up with a life unlike his own in the United states of America.
So now that I’m eyes deep into two books, I’m not watching a whole lot of television.
I’m also in dire need of a new keyboard, my computer’s a laptop and the heat that rises from the existing keyboard is way too much for my hands to handle for long periods of time.
I wrote my mom a postcard…I’ll have pictures and a story forthcoming.
I’m still a little kid at heart sometimes. I reflect on a lot of stuff, and wonder where my culture is here in Seattle, Wa. Or better yet…how is it relevant? I’m not sure, but I am enjoying the pleasantries of routine for a change.

That is hilarious I used to imagine the exact same thing when they talked about guerrillas.
Me too
I used to think to Berlin wall wasn’t actually a real wall but more of a metaphore grown up use. When I saw its fall on the TV, I couldn’t believe it ! Funny the things we believe when we’re kids…
Che Guevera is more like an icone now, but I doubt people like him that much in Latin America. Although Maradona is a semi-god !
Hahaha, that’s funny, about the gorilla part. I never thought of that…
Cool that your pops was almost on the national team, how amazing would that have been! And Maradona, that guy was just incredible…
