I’m a slacker. I admit it. There are times that I don’t want to do anything, and I don’t. Those times happen at work on occasion. This feeling gets thrown to the wayside when I see people in my department dropping the ball. There are not enough hours in the day sometimes to finish all tasks, but there are some tasks that supersede others in terms of time management. I work on a website, but there are sub-categories that sometimes need my attention instead of updates, and yesterday was highlighted by the owner of our store coming to the tech office twice in one day to see if things were getting done. Since I am new, I jumped forward and made sure things were done right. Any other time I probably would have pawned it off on someone else, but instead of doing that, I took initiative and stepped up to the plate and hit as hard as I could.
Meanwhile there was a question raised as to what everyone else was doing, and why they weren’t as productive. I’m not in the business of making anyone look bad. However, there seems to be a disconnect at times as to how much I can accomplish versus what the last guy was accomplishing.
This was magnified in my jobs past and present. The last guy struggled to get a certain amount of things updated, meanwhile I take very little time to update the same amount of items, and therefore at times am bored by my own success.
Why is that?
Proper training.
I have been working on the web since 16, and have about 7 years of E-commerce experience. So when I am coding sites, or making sublets, it takes me a short amount of time to get them done. So when the next guy, or the higher ups are struggling for hours on end, I’m sitting pretty with all my work done.
Which makes me wonder why the payscale is slower to reach my end?
I guess the glory of the tech worker lies on the managers and not the workers themselves.
At least that’s my experience with the working world. I could be the best in my field, but no one knows that because the manager umbrellas me into not receiving the trickle of the rain.
I’ve also noticed that no matter how hard I try, I can’t get my glasses clean. I hate that.
I would also like to share with everyone that I have a new keyboard. I work on a pc all day, and it goes with me everywhere, since it is a laptop, but the keyboard on it is recessed and hurts my wrists after 12 hours of banging away. So I bought an external one, and not just any external one, a monster one. This thing has a gamepad built in, so when I start playing Unreal Tournament, I don’t have to worry about random keystrokes, but rely on my reflexes and the specialized left hand of the keyboard. Not only that, it’s ergonomically designed so I don’t feel the burden on my carpal’s, and lastly, the monitor to my computer is further from my eyes so no more red eye! I know…I’m spoiled.

I envy your keyboard… I blog from my laptop and my wrist is on fire sometimes !
It’s amazing how wonderful a keyboard is in comparison to the recessed laptop keys.
I love it!
