Popularity contests are not my favorite. Popularity in blogging is helpful though. At least when you’re trying to crossover from hobby to professional. Video Store Blues was birthed through the process of working at a video store for 8 months and seeing the funny moments that happen with repeat customers, bad managers, and horrible owners and business practices.
When the stories run out of pornographic follies, and the lack of selection of essential viewings, things die down.
Or maybe the increase of traffic and subscriptions to this blog were truly a result of blogexplosion and blogmad.
Considering that I no longer spend 4 to 8 hours a day leaving comments on people sites, I have tested the loyalty of the Video Store Blues brand and have come up with the joker. Seriously, the decline went from 120 average hits to 4 hits yesterday. 4 HITS! Amazing huh?
I even bought advertising to sway more readership or maybe get more people over here.
Nope…doesn’t work.
On the financial front:
This Month So Far across 10 blogs!:
Adbrite earnings: $7.09
Paid Blogging: $0
Text-Link-Ads: $1.32
Yahoo Publisher: $.88
Google Adsense: $0
Amazon Affiliates: $8.42
Nice huh?
I’m not making anything at this point, and now I have 10 posts a day to come up with. Meanwhile my current job is still not paying me that well, although it’s stable.
Blogging is now officially work. Watching movies is work. Everything around me is work.
Why?
Because I owe The Art Institute of California - Los Angeles 52,000 dollars for an education that was suppose garner me a starting salary of at least 36k upon graduation.
I’m making the same amount of money, now with a bachelor’s degree mind you, that I made in High School.
That’s right!
I was selling Caskets for this amount of money and I didn’t have a college degree.

Frustrations are high right now.

I understand your frustration.
I am not too happy about the job i am working now as well. I believe that people have been over selling education. It is like a business with the advertisment showing how successful you will be.
Btw, i subscribed to your feed. Your posts relate to me quite a lot.
I’d be frustrated too ! My best advice would be we’re all in the same boat. Sometimes I write what I think it’s good posts (well, I hope
and no one would read.
But don’t take it personally… Visitors come and go, so weeks are busy and some aren’t.
I think you should keep on blogging anyway cause it’s bound to pay off one day. Maybe a bit later than you expected at first, but it will.
There are so many crappy blogs out there. yours is by far better.
BTW, I commented on one post a couple of days ago and it didn’t get though… sometimes the comments are very slow.
Just saying, not blaming you but I though you might wanna know it.
