The Break In

Someone knocked on my door late night the other night. I didn’t have any pants on, so I had to scramble to find them. I rarely wear pants in the house, simply because it’s hot inside my house and I like to not wear them while I’m sitting at my computer. It’s a weird thing.

The knocking grew louder, and upon opening, I noticed the apartment manager standing there, a bit distressed. She gave me the announcement that someone had broken into several apartments and had stolen a few things from our neighbors. She asked us if anything was missing, or gone, and we answered “no”. She told us that we should be alert and report any suspicious activity.

My first thought was concerning rent. Recently, the management wanted to raise the rent on hundred dollars more a month. That nearly derails my monthly budget, and they claim it was due to “operating costs” going up.

Operating costs? Well, they couldn’t get rid of the flies, they couldn’t fix our windows (they have no screens) they painted one of them shut, and now someone has broken into several apartments?

Looks to me like they are really full of something….

So while I was kept save by my paranoia of locking the upper and lower locks on my door, the rest of the well wishing Seattle natives didn’t really have that, and were broken into.

What could they have stolen from me that’s important?

  • My Comic Book Collection: I admit my comic book collection is modest. I have roughly 400 books. But each one of those books is extremely valuable. How valuable? Well…I have Daredevil #4,#5,#8, Captain America #100,Captain America Dead Man Running (complete series),Batman: A Death in The Family (Complete Series), Spiderman #127 (where Harry turns to Goblin),Wolverine #50 (1st edition & Variant Prints),Star Wars #1 CGC Graded 9.8,Rob Zombies Spookshow International (complete),Thor #1 CGC Graded 9.8 and so on and so forth. They would have to know where to find them, and identify the comics, which are in a short box.
  • Dvd’s,Television,DVD Player: Movies, Television and Dvd Player are somewhat important, but are harder to just walk out with. Plus the dvd’s I own are not the average ones. Most are movies that I love beyond rental, so I own them. Some are very very rare and out of print WWE dvd’s.

So I don’t own a lot of expensive or valuable things. My comics are #1 in the value department, and each year they get more and more valuable. I guess I’m a weird comic book collector, because I don’t collect to read, I collect to resell when I’m 40 and people are scrambling for the originals. I’d rather buy a Trade Paper Back and read the issues that way. It’s easier for me.

Oh well.

So being spared the break in, was a blessing, but the rent being raised is still looming over my head.

My finances are in a slump. A little slump. Paid blogging is once again at an all time low. $0 this week. Ad sales are $0

Although I did make $60 in book sales. It was odd.
