11.12I’m Just Burning Out
OH yeah, Green Day might not be the band that everyone likes to admit to liking. But when I was 12 years old, the year was 1995 and a band from Northern California spoke to me things that I still hold true to this day. This song especially has been ringing in my ears, as I progress in age, I feel that the adulthood is too much for me. I’m definitely not growing up, I’m burning out, and I’m stepping in line to walk amongst the dead! (zombies…workers….forced to slave away for the wage…)
Here are the lyrics….
I declare I don’t care no more
I’m burning up and out and
Growing bored
In my smoked out boring room
My hair is shagging in my eyes
Dragging my feet to hit the
Street tonight
To drive along these shit
Town lights
I’m not growing up, I’m
Just burning out
And i stepped in line to walk amongst the dead
Oh, apathy has rained on me
Now I’m feeling like a
Soggy dream
So close to drowning but
I don’t mind
I’ve lived inside this mental cave
Throw my emotions in the grave
Hell, who needs them
Anyway
Who would’ve known that a decade later, these lyrics still inspire me to raise a fist and not be afraid of how I feel about the educational missteps, stupid work politics, and life in general. Sure my faith guides me in many ways, but even the Bible has stated that our lives aren’t going to be peachy. I surely am burning out.
