Goldfinger is a band that came out at a time when a lot of punk rock was being thrown through the airwaves, and it was definitely over saturated. A lot of people cited that all these bands coming out of the southern California area were carbon copies of each other and offered little to no merit to the music community.
But for a 15 year old kid filled with angst and misunderstanding, riding his skateboarding through the streets of Culver City, this brand of music created a soundtrack of understanding and yearning that has carried on towards today.
Less Than Jake and Goldfinger are set to hit the road this summer, and with that news my thoughts immediately went towards the video and song “Spokesman”. Ahead of its time the song showcased an understanding of what I was thinking about at the time, seeing the boy bands taking over, and the girls swooning for their suave good looks, and dance moves. Meanwhile my friend and I were the outcasts of our little town, skateboarding, jumping down stairs, grinding rails, and hitting the pavement.

The whole “Open Your Eyes” Album is worth checking out, and purchasing here, I recommend it. It’s catchy, it’s political at times, it’s vegan even…perfect combination for some good times.
