03.12Nothing Scares Me On Film

What scares you?
I asked myself that question in regards to films, on my way to work today. I used to get scared by loud noises in dark theaters, or someone jumping out of nowhere into my quiet space. Sometimes I would think about what it would be like to go to hell, if you believe in hell, or what it must be like to get tortured, burned alive, or be a martyr.
Those things scare me, but do they scare me on film? What makes a scary movie scary?
In regards to all that, I couldn’t find a solid answer in regards to me personally, at least not at this point in my career as an amateur reviewer and blogging stooge. It seems that gone are the days of taboo for me, since I’m an adult, I no longer get scared during the previews of a vhs tape that my parents didn’t know they were renting for me, as I slipped it under their selections at the video store.
I remember being scared during the early moments of the 80’s slasher films that I would rent on many occasions. But now, am I too jaded to get scared?
I think at times, I am too desensitized to the world of ghouls, ghosts, and paranormal activity, to the point where I no longer see the purpose.
Film doesn’t scare me at all.
Books, on the other hand, books have a way of scaring me nearly to death. A good writer could spin a tale so filled with emotions that it impacts my imagination and I start to run away inside. It’s an interesting feeling.
Why all this talk about being scared?
Because I’ve overturned yet another milestone; I toppled my horror movie blog after a botched attempt at redesigning it. Along the way, I have qued up some horror films that I’ve viewed, and are pending postings in this very blog. So instead of giving you a disclaimer before each film, I’m going to warn you now.
Blog X is going to be pummeled into submission, with all new horror related elements, in the coming future. Considering my celebration of all things Macabre on dvd, I think you’ll enjoy my unique ramblings on these topics.
However, in the mean time, I’ll still have random banter to fill this blogs empty, white pages; not that anyone truly cares.

I’m not easily scared when it comes to movies. But there are two movies that I actually get scared of, that is “It” (saw it the first time as a kid, not good) and The Exorcist

I think the clue here is to want to be scares, allow yourself to be scared. A sure fire way of doing that (for me) is to watch a scary movie at home with headphones on, so you are “in” the movie. Once I am watching, I am in trance, and I get easily scared and it’s so much fun! But even after the movie or during the movie if I need to take a bathroom break I am still “in the movie” and allow my imagination to run wild and let me tell you, that is some scary s***…
Also when I write fiction, I tend to become part of the story and scare myself silly.
I am 30, but I still love to be scared
