This week we see some records coming out from independent artists, metal bands, and even some not so heavy bands, and when you’re done trying to figure out which one to buy, check out the free music offerings that are available for you right now. I’m probably going to pick up the Unearth set, as I think hardcore and metal have never been fused so well.

But if buying music is not your cup of tea. There has been a lot of talk by a lot of people online about some free music that is floating around for everyone to take advantage of, although these aren’t necessarily items that are released this week, but rather free cd’s that you can get in place of anything new that you might want to get.

NIN - Ghosts I - IV
Nine Inch Nails is being harolded as genius (mainly Trent…all things considered) for releasing his record with a free option, and a low cost option, as well as some other varieties that will allow the consumer ultimate control in regards to the release. Which is somewhat odd huh? Well, you can pick up a copy via your favorite bittorrent site, thanks to NIN uploading the whole thing himself, or you can click here and go to the official site and get the first edition: Ghosts I for free, and then pay a small fee for the rest of the albums.
The albums are instrumental and provide great music to work to, especially if you’re an office clown like myself and have to sit at a desk for a living. It’s really good, in my opinion, and worth the price of admission: free.

Fighting From The Ground Up Vol. 1 – Various Artists
In lesser known circles, there is this album featuring 41 different songs, from 41 different bands that you probably have not heard of. The first track is even from Tumbledown, which is a side project of Mike Herrera (bass, vocals: Mxpx). It’s a 200MB download, and available for free! That’s right, the whole album entitled “Fighting from the Ground Up Vol. 1” is now yours for free, and all you have to do is click here. It’s easy. The songs range from loud, to not so loud, so you’ll have a good mix of the underground.

Iron Maiden – Somewhere Back In Time
Iron Maiden is looking to get a foothold into newer fans by doing something amazing. Giving away their music! The guys in Iron Maiden have a huge fan base of listeners that are not exactly youngsters. So to encourage growth of new fans, and to give something back to the metal world they are releasing a free best of record with some of their best tracks from the 80’s. Iron Maiden might be older than a grand majority of us, but they still put down one of the sickest, loudest, and relevant metal performances ever. So while Metallica complain about Napster, and have a hard time writing new music, Iron Maiden is giving their old stuff a kick in the pants by giving it you for free, and then are going out on tour and tearing the house down with more metal riffs than your spine can handle. So check out more information the free download in high def, here. Well worth the price of admission!
So today we get some new music released online, in stores, and this time we didn’t leave out those of us that are poor. Get your free music, and support the acts directly or indirectly.
