From The Record Store 4/1/08
I usually post a quick round up of all the music released on Tuesdays, but no one really cares to see every single release that is out on a Tuesday. So this time around, I’ll just chime in on the important ones, or at least some of the interesting ones that are out today.
I’m a sucker for a good cd, and although a majority of people don’t seem to buy cd’s, I still do, and recommend that you do too…if you have a few dollars. Especially for some bands that are up and comers or of a genre left of main stream.
In Flames “Sense of Purpose” – The metalcore act that kicked me in the nuts when I was a teenager has a new release, and they are continuing to pave a legacy in metal that most bands have long since abandoned. They show prowess for heavy music, while mixing in melody, and not losing a sense of purpose, so they say. (the title) If you’re a fan of In Flames, you’re going to want to pick this one up.
Anti-Flag “The Bright Lights of America” – The guys in Anti-Flag have moved to the big leagues, and under their own terms. Their songs are as close as you can get to the passion and political awareness that was prominent in the late 90’s from such bands as System of a Down, and Rage Against the Machine. The band plays a brand of punk rock that is at its core, punk rock with no apologies.
Search The City “A Fire So Big The Heavens Can See It” – Tooth and Nail records is trying to continue to gain fans, even though a grand majority of their bands sound exactly the same. Could the latest from Search the City bring back the glory days of Tooth and Nail? Or will they continue to flounder in mediocrity.
I’m not a big fan of REM, so I’m not mentioning their release…on purpose.
You can pick up any of these discs at amazon.com, or download them illegally, I don’t really care.
