Death Sentence Review

Death Sentence on dvd

A family is in shambles after the eldest son is killed in a “wrong place at the wrong time” gas station robbery gone awry. Kevin Bacon plays a father who’s having a hard time coping, but has seen the face of his son’s killer.

The Killer gets off, due to the fact that there was only one major eye witness (Bacon) and no surveillance camera’s, and then…the killer gets off.

Bacon vows revenge, but the gang that were responsible aren’t just going to roll over and die.

This movie is great to me. The emotion is heartfelt, the tears seem real at times, Bacon has really come a long way from the last time I remember him…a pedophile in The Woodsman. The emotion is so harsh at times, and the filming follows the story line well, with few moments that just don’t sit well with me, but I’ll overlook them based on the sheer trauma of the third act of this film.

If films were professional wrestlers, this film would be HHH. Not a big fan of wrestling? Then film is a hard Rated R film with major revenge themes, not too far fetched from the likes of Death Wish (the first one). If Charles Bronson were to make films, this is something he’d make, because the main character goes through so much with the death of his son, witnessing it, and then seeing the killer get off with no punishment…drives him insane…a good insane though…if there is such a thing.

If there is something to learn from a film like this it would be best put this way:

  • 1) Always have a camera ready.
  • 2) Never forget, but forgive if you can.
  • 3) Never chase down a gang by yourself, unless you’re Kevin Bacon, Chuck Norris or Charles Bronson

That sums it up pretty well. This was a good and easy film to watch, but not the greatest I’ve ever seen. The director/writer of the original Saw was behind this one, and he totally saves himself from “Dead Silence” which was laughable at best.

I recommend Death Sentence to anyone that can stomach a very hard R-Rated revenge film.
