Lars and the Real Girl on dvd, is quite the film. It is slow building and never really blows up, like you would expect from a slow burning film. The movie surrounds a man who is an extreme introverted loner. He orders a Real Doll, and pretends that it is real. To help him, his family and friends treat her as a real person, and through the film we see a transition of growth from loving a fictitious woman, to what could very well be a real woman in the end. (He finds a coworker pretty)
The movie is slow.
Very slow.
However, there is a lot of humor in reactions, and when you’re not laughing at the complete irony of the films message, you’ll actually begin to enjoy this very emotional movie.
The performances are flawless, and the subject is never treated as a novelty for Sex or anything along those lines. In fact, this film, features NO sex with the Real Doll, even though that is why the Real Doll was invented.
This film is not for everyone, as it is slow, and you never really feel that the movie is going anywhere.
However, if you enjoy dark humor, and great acting, you might enjoy this one. It’s just not for everyone.
Here is the official Trailer for the film:
The movie might be greater to me, than to others, because I loved Six Feet Under (hbo) and this film is written by one of the writers.

I see the trailer and had found it original… but the movie didn’t make it to Ottawa. Might rent the video though.
