65 Days of Static

65 days of static

I can’t believe I missed out on these guys for so long. 65 Days of Static is a band that plays instrumental rock & roll. Imagine the band Muse, only harder, and with no vocals 90% of the time.

These guys have been around a long time, and for whatever reason, were under my radar for a long time.

Until recently, when my coworker took control of our sound system at work for 4 hours and played some of the 65 days of static albums back to back. The sounds range from softer interludes to all out heavy metal anthems, with no vocals and amazing musicianship.

There are other bands right now that play a lot of instrumental music well, but these guys have been doing it longer than bands like Pelican, Baroness, and dare I say…on The Might of Princes. (I’m stretching far on that last one)

Here is a video for the song Retreat Retreat by 65 Days of Static:

Definitely worth a listen or two, and I’m glad to have picked up a couple of their records. These songs are really good if you are tired and in need of some zzzzzz’s. While the band probably has been more prolific than others, they are still somewhat “underground” when compared to other bands in similar genre’s.
