Mama’s Boy Dvd Review

Anna Faris Nude

All these films about loveable losers that have been coming out in these latter years have been interesting to me. Not so much for their content, as it is usually cookie cutter and dumb, but moreover for what could’ve been me in many times.

Mama’s Boy stars Jon Heder of Napoleon Dynamite fame. It also stars Diane Keaton, Jeff Daniels, and my personal celebrity crush Anna Faris.

In an awkward change of pace for me I’m going to talk about a couple of actor’s that I noticed in this film:

Jeff Daniels – This guy is in a lot of great movies. However, you’ve most likely never seen these movies. If you’re thinking Speed or Dumb and Dumber, you’re wrong. Think about the movies The Lookout, The Squid and the Whale, and Mama’s Boy. Ok, not Mama’s boy, but I was on a roll, if only in my own mind. I couldn’t help but think that Jeff Daniels went the opposite direction of Jim Carrey (Dumb and Dumber) and has really hit rock bottom with this film. However, before I nail down his acting coffin, I have to recall the movie that Billy Bob Thorton did recently; Mr. Woodcock. So maybe Jeff is just bored and keeping the income coming. If I was an actor, I’d sell out fast, because if you would compare me to an actor, I’m just trying to make ends meet. (that’s for those of you that read my personal blog)

Anna Faris – I love Anna Faris. She was funny in a lot of movies, but in this movie she was so darn cute. If I wasn’t married, and I was a famous actor, I’d definitely want to meet her and say what’s up. I’d throw down my one liners and just see where things went. I know, I know, her movies aren’t exactly award winners, but she’s so cute in this movie…just watch it, you’ll see.

Now back to my review.

The movie revolves around a 29 year old guy that still lives with his mom, works a dead end job (like me), and has new competition for his mother’s attention; Jeff Daniels. Just like Mr. Woodcock, this film ends up being a competition between the two and trying to get mom’s attention. Meanwhile, all sorts of tomfoolery happens, and then when you think things are going to go well for Heder, there’s a plot turn where they are going to sell the house and now Heder must grow up or be left out of the inner circle. But what happens here is something so cute, Anna Faris and John Heder fall in love, then fall out of love, and then things start to unravel and we get your basic coming of age story for older people.

Here is a trailer for the movie, Mama’s Boy:

Mama’s Boy wasn’t that great. However, I love Jon Heder, and I love how he is always the same character. I guess I just lost major points with many of you, and I’m sorry. This movie is a cute one, but it is not something that the majority of people are going to enjoy, and in fact, most people will probably find this movie boring and predictable. It’s true, it’s a predictable, coming of age story, and you know what? I’m fine with that. I knew it was going to be this way, but the surprise to me is that Jeff Daniels, despite a lousy script, pulled off some real emotion and forced Jon Heder to actually act more than just like Napoleon Dynamite, and that by itself makes this movie barely passing for most. Check it out for sure, but only buy it if you’re in love with Anna Faris, love Jon Heder or want to see Jeff Daniel make a subpar plot actually enjoyable.

Mama’s Boy is available on dvd via amazon.com, in the sir Jorge market for cheap, or at your local store. It’s not for everyone, but it’s ok.
