I Desire The End

I heard a quote the other day from a Northwest MC, and in one of his tracks he says;

“lyricism don’t sell no more…”

First and foremost, the double negative kills me. No one ever calls out MC’s for their lack of grammar skills. But that aside, he is saying that lyricism does not sell any longer.

It’s true.

No one seems to pay attention to what people are saying, singing, growling, screaming or whispering through their music.

I am in the minority. (not just being a Mexican…and cue the silence and crickets)

I actually do read, listen, and pine over lyrics. Case in point these lyrics, which are taken from a metalcore band called Zao.

“I desire the end, the touch armageddon,
this world incased in flames, the walk of, the walk of fallen kingdoms,
I desire the end.

I desire the end, I desire the new beginning,
I desire the absence of death, I desire the end of this abuse,
I desire the end of mourning, I desire the end.”

With everyone talking about The Dark Knight, and how “dark” it is, and how deep of a meaning it has, I started to immediately think of this song by Zao.

Consider the lyrics to this metallic hardcore song, a desire for the end, a world incased in flames! The walk of fallen kingdoms! I desire the end!

Seriously, this song makes the world around me turn dark, and the only light I have left is the small embers of what used to be this piece of crap job I have to work, and this piece of crap life that I have to endure through.

A sad song, with a great ending…a new beginning, which is all I want when I die. I believe I will get it.

Consider the album “Liberate Te Ex Inferis” from the band Zao. It’s a taste of lyricism, metallic hardcore and instrumental music.

You can either purchase the full zao cd through amazon.com, or pick up the full zao album mp3 via amazonmp3.com or below in this cool widget with samples!

If nothing else, I ask everyone to not just listen to music, but read and try to understand the words, and maybe the songs you listen to will be that much more relevant to you and your daily musings. I know this song did a lot for me today, with a horrible day at work.
