Stealing From Bands

I’m all for downloading music, p2p servers, and all that is available to us as a consumer of music. However, stealing from a band straight up? I thought this was fiction. Apparently it’s not, and one of my favorite bands recently had an opportunity to talk about it. The band is Evergreen Terrace, and aside from their Simpson’s reference they are a heavy band, and aren’t exactly in the mainstream making millions. Their recent post over at the official headbangers ball blog, really made me think about how low society has gotten.

“One of the first incidents on the tour was with another hardcore band. Their merch girl told me two guys tried to steal a CD from her table. When she confronted them their reply was, “What? We are stealing from the band, not you.””

- Excerpt from HB Blog featuring Evergreen Terrace

Here’s a video from Evergreen Terrace…and maybe they are making some money…look at the production quality….

Seriously, who has the balls to steal from a touring hardcore band? I understand not having money for the cd, but do you really need to jack one from the merch table? I’ve been to a lot of shows in my days, and I personally have never ever dreamed of stealing from a band like this. But it seems like a good day to talk about stealing, because look at the following:

Today there was a scene outside of my little room without a view. These 4 guys were stopped by what appeared to be undercover cops, whom I later found out was REI’s security. Some fools decided to shop lift and had even gotten into their car and were getting ready to get away, but NOPE…they got chased down and busted. Exciting huh?

All this to say that it’s a weird world, and I’m tired.
