Death Race was not on everyone’s radar this weekend. I admit, I wasn’t even going to see it, but I happened to be next to the theater and couldn’t resist. I might have a problem. Without any self control I got myself into Death Race and was not really hoping for anything special, but being a huge fan of Death Race 2000, I had to see this one.
The movie was no nonsense, and pure action. This movie is pure action, and not a whole lot else. If you have seen Death Race 2000, this movie pays homage to that, while giving it a good spin in a new era. The movie is seriously blow by blow action, nothing else. Sure, it has themes of revenge, crime, society, racial tension and other things, but I just thought that it was a great popcorn flick, without a whole lot filler. The movie made me feel like a kid again, because I grew up in an era when action films didn’t make sense, but were watched non stop because there were some major explosions and Stallone or Van Damme!
Whatever the case is, Death Race is fun, but isn’t a serious film. I liked the pacing, I liked the explosions, and the new trailer for Fast and Furious with ALL the original cast was stellar too!
I guess it wasn’t a serious weekend for me, because I checked my brain at the door for this one. Death Race is just too much good stuff, but not necessarily intelligent.
