The early years of Seinfeld were odd. The characters were definitely not as neurotic and the comedy was situational far more than later episodes. The situations were also not too absurd, while there was absurdity running throughout the dialogue it was more of a show featuring talking heads. If Kevin Smith were to do a sitcom, I would imagine the characters would have lengthy dialogue scenes like the early incarnation of Seinfeld. The stories gradually started getting further and further more ridiculous as Season 2 started to end, but overall these early episodes weren’t the greatest in the Seinfeld chronology. It is interesting to watch how the Seinfeld world started, but as a whole, these episodes aren’t for everyone. If you’re a fan of the later Seinfeld shows, you’re not going to necessarily laugh as much at these ones. I like them fine, but they aren’t as outlandish or as funny as their latter episodes, with exception to the final episode which I don’t really like a whole lot. If you’ve absolutely love Seinfeld, you’ll love these, but if you’re not really a fan or just a casual fan at most, then the first two seasons of the beloved sitcom aren’t up to par with the rest.
My recommendation, don’t pick up Seinfeld Season 1 & 2 on dvd unless you’re a diehard fan of the show.
What I do recommend is checking out 1,000 books to read, not bad if you ask me.

You know, I’ve never really been a huge Seinfeld fan. All my friends think I’m crazy but it’s just never made me laugh.
