Run Fat Boy Run Review

Run Fat Boy Run

Simon Pegg’s Run Fat Boy Run is supposed to be a hilarious movie. It isn’t. It actually runs the course of random, ubiquitous observational jokes and plays to the fans of “Mr. Bean” more than anything original. Pegg is good at it, but the movie is so predictable and boring that you’ll probably not enjoy it all that much.

Here’s a trailer for Run Fat Boy Run:

The basic plot revolves around a guy that runs away from his pregnant bride to be on the wedding day, and is now older and realizes that he made a huge mistake. To somehow prove his love and that he has changed, he runs a marathon. Along the way we are treated to musical training montages, flashbacks of better times, and another predictable film.

The movie turns out to be another romantic comedy and if you’ve seen one, you might have seen them all. Pegg does do a good job at playing the slacker and it is almost a reprisal of the role that he had in “Spaced”, a far better comedic performance.

While I am not sure why this film was made, I do enjoy the chemistry between the characters as they seem a little more genuine than your average mis-matched couple in these movies. (Think Hugh Grant and say…Julia Roberts)

At the end of Run Fat Boy Run, you don’t really feel bad for watching it. It is harmless to say the least, and while there are a few laughs here and there, the sum of its parts makes for just another romantic comedy. I don’t recommend this one, unless you’re a diehard fan of Simon Pegg. Run fat Boy Run is now available on dvd.
