I don’t put a lot of time or effort into what I want for Christmas. However, I saw these and really fell in love. There is no place near me that sells Dr Martin’s so I have to just wish I could get my grubby hands on these. I really want a pair of white ones too, but that’s neither here nor there. I hope one day I can get a couple pair of these amazing shoes and boots.
The Red Doc Marten’s are only available at select stores, and none of them are near me..but maybe someday I can get my hands on them.
I’ve been behind lately, but not so behind that I haven’t been thinking about what to add to my yearly geek christmas list. Last year on my old site I wrote a bunch of things down, but it’s a new year and these are my top picks for the geek that may have everything. Then again, maybe they don’t have everything….here are some geek christmas ideas…well mostly comic books:

The Long Halloween
Absolute Batman The Long Halloween is my first and biggest pick for something to purchase a geek. The plot of the story was a major influence for the Dark Knight and this thing is massive. The graphic novel is a collection of a twelve issue comic book series that featured a “holiday” serial killer, and made the debut of Two Face, amongst other things. It has some of the best artwork, and features an intense story line that really jumps off the page. It shows that Batman is not just some “cartoony” character to read. This noir/crime novel is amazing, and really is something to get your grubby hands on. Batman The Long Halloween is one of my personal favorites, and this absolute edition is just perfect.

Absolute Death
Neil Gaiman pushed through something great when he started writing Death. Absolute Death is the ultimate packaging of Neil Gaiman’s masterpieces sewn together with such amazing artwork. If you’re not familiar with Death, then you’re missing out.
Of course, there’s a ton of other things you can purchase in regards to comic books, I mean you could get Scalped Volume 1 - 5, which I highly recommend. Or you could check out so much more, this is no way a definitive list, just some ideas.

Watchmen Nite OwlShip Dvd
Watchmen Director’s Cut Nite Owl Ship edition dvd set is one of the best things I’ve seen in regards to collectibles. Yes, I saw the Terminator skull box set, and I’ve seen so many other unique box sets, including the Big Lebowski bowling ball edition, however this is interesting to note as well. This thing is an amazon exclusive, so you may not even see it in stores. I recommend it, even though I didn’t exactly love the movie.
The final piece to my little geek gift ideas post is something that I’m sure no one thought I’d mention. This is definitely the wild card, because it’s more of a personal thing than anything else. I even spent some serious money getting this on vhs. I had to buy it via vhs, one by one, but this week it was released in a box set!

Silent Night Deadly Night III - V Box Set
Silent Deadly Night III - V finishes off the 5 films from the famous killer santa claus cult classic film. I’ve loved this series since I was a kid, and until recently you could only get this on vhs edited. So now you can get yourself all the films in a dvd box set. There’s not a whole lot to say about these films, they are terrible but if you’re a fan of the series, you have sentimental appreciation for the films. I just wish I knew it was coming to dvd. I now have a set of vhs tapes that no one will buy…oh well.
There you go, a quick list of geek christmas ideas. This is not a comprehensive list by any stretch of the imagination. It’s just something fast, in case you’re reading this site out of the blue and forgot to buy someone in your life a special something. I’ll be back with more posts…I’m just getting lazy.

I don’t really like a lot of television. However, when television is written right, with a good poignant analysis of right and wrong and really makes complex decisions about their characters and how the audience will judge them, then I’m intrigued. I first heard about The Shield when I was working as a video store clerk, finishing up my degree. I started with Season 1 disc 1 and moved forward through years of watching the show, and then the final season started and I was ready.
Never before has a show captured the attention of not only myself but many other fans of cop dramas the way The Shield has and did. The show not only focused on dirty cops as a given, it brought out the best and worst out of the ideas that we take for granted somehow and fully charged the notion of gray areas amidst a sea of “what if’s” that aren’t usually addressed by any other shows.
While the show maintained a strong focus on the core dirty cops, the political stages of many characters, race, violence and more, there is also so much good to be found. While the entire show starts with a cop getting shot in the face, it is ultimately the last scene of the last show that hits hardest. It was last November that the final show aired and I was satisfied with the years spent invested in watching and following this show.
That’s why when news broke that this is out, I had to pick it up. I highly recommend The Shield. It gets some trouble starting out, but it fills the void and breaks through the cob webs of mediocre cop dramas past and present. This show is gritty, dark, and balanced. I loved it, and think it’s well worth the price. You get all 7 series, a book, and so much more. You owe it to yourself to check out The Shield Complete Series Box Set today.
